I have an Acer Extensa 4420. It died a day out of warranty. In searching reasons, I found a number of sites referencing inferior motherboards for this model. Customer service refused to do anything to encourage that didn't require my spending more money. I would not recommend any Acer laptop as customer service is very awful.

I frail one of these for a couple of months and it progressivly got slower and more unreliable as each week passed. Despite high quality windows and computer maintenance there was no saving the urge and reliaility of this machine. The hide is kind of cheap looking and the expose is not gracious. The unit gets extremely hot when using any kind of media software or games, even simple apps alot of times. The trackpad and buttons are cheap, feel cheap and have cheap performance. This is honest a part of junk.

I've always been a fan of ultraportable computers, and I've owned a few, which include a Motion LS800 tablet, Raon Everun, Vaio TX, Vaio TZ, and an Asus 1000H. So, my review is based upon my experience with those machines. The Vaio P, in my notion, is the ideal combination of portability and functionality, if typing is an integral allotment of your computing needs. I bought 2 of them (one for me, one for the wife) as soon as they were announced on the Sony website, and have been using it for about 2 weeks.

PRO'S:

(1) Hide RESOLUTION: One divulge that I have always had with any ultraportable (outside of the Vaio TX and TZ) has been coarse camouflage resolution (e.g. 1028 x 680), which has always lead to lots of scrolling and/or zooming-out. The resolution on the Vaio P is, in one word, fabulous. EVERY webpage is viewable in its entirety on the cover, as is EVERY document I need to read or edit. The downside is that text ends up being VERY miniature on the hide, but calm legible to me (I type documents in 10-pt Times Recent Roman font) . However, there is a personalization option available that allows you to design text/icons 125% larger than normal, which makes things worthy easier to watch. My wife wears glasses and has pain reading the text at normal settings, so she uses that mode and it works well for her.

(2) PORTABILITY: Okay, let's not kid ourselves here. This thing will NOT fit in your shirt/pants pocket (unless you're wearing very baggy cargo pants), but it will fit in a purse or any tiny satchel. Weight is negligible, even with the extended-life battery attached. Portability is a titanic thing for me in my profession (medical student, MD in a few months), and this machine can easily fit in the pocket of my white coat when I'm on the recede.

(3) THE KEYBOARD: I type extensively as portion of my profession, and having a usable keyboard is a component that has always been missing from any computer that I could carry on my person. My Motion tablet and Everun were useful for reading on-the-go, but essentially useless for typing anything beyond a short phrase. My Vaio TX/TZ have gigantic keyboards (I've typed thousands of pages on them), but the machines themselves are too big to carry on me at all times.

Let me also catch this opportunity to point out that, in comparison to the Asus 1000H, the Vaio P is not unprejudiced another crappy netbook. The keyboard on the 1000H, for many reasons, is a low-quality component that definitely shows with heavy utilize. Any typing mistakes made with the Vaio P are genuinely my hold keystroke mistakes, which was not the case with the Asus (90% of the time, it was honest the junky keyboard causing mistakes) . The right-shift key on the Vaio P is truncated, but its placement to the left of the arrow keys makes it a mighty more natural motion to hit, and something that you can become accustomed to without causing you to alter your typing accuracy on a normal-sized keyboard, which was really impartial impossible with the 1000H (that had the factual shift key placed to the just of the arrow keys) .

(4) FUNCTIONALITY: It is a fully-functional PC, first-rate of running any program you might need to speed, given that you're not trying to utilize this as a gaming PC. I have installed Windows 7 on my Vaio P, which has made it noteworthy more efficient at running multiple programs simultaneously, as well as improving stability. I would highly recommend this upgrade for anyone purchasing this machine.

CONS:

(1) VISTA: This machine should have near standard with XP. Vista boot time is horrendously tiresome, even from hibernation, and installing Windows 7 does not fix this pickle. My other ultraportables running XP were able to return from hibernation in about 20-60 seconds. The Vaio P takes probably 2-3 minutes. Maybe I'm a miniature impatient, but I want my computer to be ON when I turn it on. The integrated instant-on technology is not terribly useful to me because I generally need to spend programs other than Media player or Firefox when I fire my machine up.

(2) NOT USER-UPGRADEABLE: As I understand it, the RAM is soldered to the motherboard and thus not upgradeable. 3 GB of RAM would have made the VAIO P distinguished faster, and would have alleviated quandary (1) I described above, and with 3 GB of RAM, Windows 7 would not even be a necessity because it would then be able to bustle Vista acceptably.

(3) STANDARD BATTERY LIFE: Sony touts 4 hours of life with the standard battery, which is of course a lie. It's more like 2.5 to 3 hours with hide brightness turned down to 1 or 2 (at which it is calm very grand readable/viewable), with WiFi on. I also have the big capacity battery, which takes it to 6.5 to 7 hours at the same settings. The immense capacity battery adds maybe 1 to 1.5 cm of height to the machine, which is something of an eyesore, but I will do the sacrifice because the added battery life is worth more to me than the 0.2 lbs (not noticeable) and increased size.

(4) LACK OF TOUCHPAD: This omission is well-documented in other reviews; the pointing stick does what it is intended to do and it does it well -- however, it does NOT replace the touchpad or a mouse. Most people are already well-aware of this verbalize before purchasing the Vaio P. One thing I would liked to have seen instead is the optical mouse like on the Raon Everun, which is an intuitive and exceptional pointing way that is easier to spend than the pointing stick.

*CONCLUSION: the Vaio P is an exceptional design of unique engineering that allows its owners to have productivity at a level comparable to that of a laptop while away from home, or when lugging a laptop case is impractical -- thus, I must stress that it is intrinsically a COMPANION PC. One should not request this to REPLACE a distinguished PC, nor should one anticipate using this as their laptop 100% of the time, 24/7, because it simply would be foolish and needlessly sad to do so. I would earn the analogy of comparing WiFi to a T1 connection -- given the choice and availability, no one would determine WiFi over a T1 connection, but the convenience and mobility of a WiFi connection are advantages that the T1 cannot match. In the same procedure, the Vaio P offers unmatched portability and convenience, but its purpose is of a different nature than the necessary laptop/desktop -- so, as long as you maintain that inequity in mind, the Vaio P should enhance your productivity and live up to its effect of being a "lifestyle" PC.

I have venerable few other laptops and desktops. But this was my first try with "netbook." This products has a vast features, style, and size and that's one of the reason I bought this netbook. There are some pros and cons about this and I'll let you know to encourage you on purchasing this item.

pros:

1. The Size: size of this product is impartial astonishing. There are few other netbooks came out but this is the smallest. Very handy and portable. I mean who's gonna beat the size of 9.65" x 4.72" x 0.78" and the weight of 1lb 4.8oz? The only thing is, it's not going to fit on your hip pocket, like it advertised. But It will fit on your hand fair splendid, or for girls, it will fit on your little purse.

2. The resolution: Most of the netbooks came out with the hide resolution of 1028 x 680, but Sony made this 1600 x 768, which provides more comfortable views for users. Although, the 8 gallop hide is kindda too dinky for that resolution, you might feel tired after looking at the camouflage for long time.

3. The instant booting system: The instant booting system (based on Linux system) takes about 15 seconds to boot up, you can browse websites, explore movies or listen to musics. You can also boot up the computer to windows mode from there. This comes very handy.

Cons:

1. Sony fair had to design it with the Vista. The performance goes dramatically down running Vista on this product. You can also downgrade it to XP, which makes VAIO P mighty faster to construct, but you will derive lags watching movies because there's no GMA 500 chip location driver for XP. The best intention to employ VAIO P is to upgrade its operating system to Windows 7, overall performance was very nice. Although, it might be slower than XP, you can spend GMA 500 driver and overall performance is trustworthy.

2. VAIO P is using 1.33GHz Z520 Intel Atom Processor. This chip space makes VAIO P not able to acquire as hasty as other laptops, but for netbooks, it is elegant rapid.

3. The sign of this is about $1,000 when most of netbook's mark is around $500. I don't consider VAIO P performs twice as worthy as other netbooks, but the effect of it is more than twice as noteworthy as other products.

4. HD (Hard Disk) performance is remarkable lower than SSD (Solid Set Disk) performance. I deem it'd be great better to resolve SSD model if you want to hold this. Awful about it is the capacity. It only holds 60GB for HD, and 64GB for SSD.

Overall, This is a netbook that I personally concept of best. I believe this is definitely not for the main computer, but colossal for sub-computer. It comes very handy and portable, so if you are looking for a sub-computer (or laptop), this is one of the best.

I was one of the first people to seize one of these and have been using it since the beginning of February. (Bought the VGN-P530H) This is my main computing blueprint that I exhaust 12-16 hours a day and I admire it, but it is not for everybody.

I disappear a lot, nearly all of it internationally, and often in economy. This is a laptop that you can expend on the smallest of tray tables, even with the seat in front of you fully reclined. I bought the leather pouch accessory and often carry the laptop around in it. It's gargantuan to unbiased be able to bound by my desk, toss it in the pouch and go to a meeting and then pull it out if I need it. Since it is only about the size of a notepad, it's easy to carry around everywhere, to situations I wouldn't want the bother of a laptop bag.

The laptop appears sturdily built for the rigors of road warrior disappear. Since February, I've flown more than 50K miles with it, including a 2 week vacation in Japan where we visited 11 cities. It's taken its aesthetic portion of bumps and doesn't prove it. I originally bought this for my wife but began using it as my absorb when my company provided Dell E4200 broke in its 3rd week (the monitor backlighting electronics burned out) . While the monitor lid is not thicker than other models, it seems to be more resilient because of the smaller surface dwelling.

The Vaio P is visually glorious. When using it in the executive lounge in the airport or on a plane, people will often approach up to ask what model it is. The cloak quality is unbelievable, especially when you mediate they packed 1600x768 pixels into that runt hide. You'll need 20-20 vision or better to be able to comfortably read this camouflage, which will be a deal breaker for lot of people. If you're unsure, try one out in a store before buying. Setting the icons and text to a larger size can benefit. One of the things that I don't like about the laptop is that it does not have and lower resolutions that are in proportion. For example, the next lower resolutions are 1024x768 and 800x600 which appear distorted since they are out of proportion compared to the native resolution. There are times when I'm in a bumpy car or somewhere else with a lot of motion and expend the 800x600, but it would be nice if they had something more proportional like 800x400 or 1024x500.

Love the keyboard and the pointer stick (I can't stand track pads) . The suitable shift key is unusually sized and placed, it drove me nuts for about 2 weeks until I got primitive to it.

The power adaptor is miniature. There are no ports for Ethernet and VGA on the laptop, you need to crawl in the included dongle for that. The dongle is fairly microscopic and clips on to the power adaptor brick. The only thing I didn't like about the dongle is that it does not have puny LEDs on the Ethernet port that exhibit the plot of the Ethernet connection. This is a useful features for travelers - to know more quick if the port you plugged into is live or not.

The laptop came with Verizon 3G, which has a nice prepaid option where you can capture service for $9.95 a day, without entering into a contract, which is nice compared to buying WiFi access in hotels, since you can employ it anywhere you have coverage for the day. (I didn't gain any coverage holes on my trips to southern California, Chicago, Northern Virginia, Baltimore and Miami) However, since most of my depart is outside the US, where the card does not seem to work, this is a mostly useless feature for me and it would have been nice to be able to trade it for something more useful like, GPS.

A few things I didn't like:

The main bellow we had with the laptop was bad performance with Windows Vista. As installed, it is unacceptably lifeless for regular everyday expend. We installed the beta of Windows 7 on the laptop and it is working comely. Installing Windows 7 on the laptop is a poke, the only drivers I downloaded were for the video and the network. I have been running with this laptop as my main computer for the last few weeks (on Windows 7) and the performance is not an reveal opening web pages, outlook, powerpoint, excel and word at the same time. Things will open to dead down with too many (e.g., 8 Firefox windows, outlook, 2 powerpoint presentations and 3 excel sheets) - closing a few windows will bring help the zippiness. We didn't catch the SSD and I wouldn't bother. I support a rapidly 32GB SDHC card in the SD bay to increase the storage size since 64GB can be a tiny limiting.

The battery life is not tremendous - with WiFi on, I bag less than 2 hours battery life. A microscopic more than 2 hours with the WiFi off. The power adaptor outputs a non-standard voltage: 10.5V, so you will not be able to expend it with nearly any universal power supply or universal laptop batteries (like the ADC) . Together with the rude battery life, this is a serious dilemma on trips.

A word to the wise, contrary to some misleading information on the Vaio website, this laptop does *not* reach with GPS or any navigation software. I was very disappointed about this, as the website intro to this product implies they have it and the sales collect that sold me my laptop over the phone confirmed that the laptop definitely does advance with GPS. To the best of my knowledge, none of the P-series laptops Sony is selling in North America advance with GPS. We came very cessation to returning the laptop for this reason alone. Another thing to be wary about - the sales procure tried to sell me an Ethernet/VGA dongle when the laptop already comes with one.

The WiFi card does not attend 5GHz WiFi N - this is disappointing in a notice recent premium laptop since this has been available on many laptops since the middle of last year. Also, the laptop does not have an easily found serial number on the bottom. This may sound nitpicky, but it's a plight for those of us that visit buildings that require registering the laptops with a serial number before entering and upon leaving.

In summary, this may sound like a lot of things not to like for someone who loves the laptop, but I wanted to be complete as this laptop is not for everybody. I cherish the smaller size and that for such a little size it has such a nice keyboard, shroud resolution and reasonable performance on Windows 7. More memory, a faster processer and a larger disk would be nice, but I can gain by. The bigger jam is the battery life and I'll probably be getting an extended battery in the future to solve that. The Vaio P is also reasonably rugged - my last 2 laptops were a Dell E4200 and a Sony TZ-200 both of which developed mask problems and needed repair on my first or second inch with them (and neither suffered any essential abuse) . I'd give it 4 stars, but am docking Sony 1 star for being misleading about the GPS.

Well, the digital transition fair wasn't all it was cracked up to be, so I finally bought a modern TV.

This TV has a splendid represent at a immense trace. Easy place up with clearly labeled slots at the help for the various inputs, and easy on-screen controls pop up when you need them.

The size is honest correct even in a immense room if you want a more archaic TV feel, rather than a *monster TV.* I'm glad with the report and the sound. DVD's are fine on this conceal, and unimaginative vanilla TV is fun to explore again. If you're a first time buyer, you'll be thrilled. If you're adding a limited TV to a guest room or expend room, I reflect the characterize and sound quality is expansive, and the ticket is superior, too.

I have had this tv for 3 weeks and its been awesome. The colors are shining, the sound is crisp and the employ of the unique style remote is simplistic. I have it crooked up to DirecTV and glimpse no blurry or pixelation on sports programming whatsoever. I would disgreard knee jerk negative reviews of this product. This is my 3rd Samsung and have not had one unpleasant experience yet.

Have this LCD in the spare room for wife's workouts - she loves the unit - the moral size at the good sign! Characterize is suburb, color with genuine depth and lustrous clarity. Have expend Samsung products in the past and have enjoyed all.

One year ago I purchased the 16GB recent iPod Touch. At that time, I found that even though it had some flaws, the over-all package made it one of the best iPods available. Now, one year later, Apple has released the next generation Touch. I've now had it for a few days, and here's what I found: the second gen iPod Touch is a marked improvement over the the first gen, and comes even closer to perfection. Keeping this in mind, this review will expose one stout, and a number of smaller shortcomings. It may also be difficult to explain upgrading from the 1st to 2nd gen unless you simply must have one of the few hardware improvements, and can live with the fact that you may have to re-purchase some of your accessories.

Size and Dimensions

The iPod Touch now sports a more rounded originate on the aid, making it behold slightly thinner and more like the iPhone than the novel did (it is not really thinner than it's predecessor, objective looks that blueprint) . Unfortunately, the abet plate is unexcited made from stainless steel, and this plate attacts fingerprints and scratches almost magically. After one year of near-constant utilize the backplate of my first gen Touch looks a bit like a wild etch-a-sketch (I carry the Touch in my pocket) . Interestingly, the glass on the front appears (after one year of heavy employ) to be absolutely scratch-resistant. It's the backside (that also carries the custom engraving) that like a flash becomes blemished. I would have preferred a brushed metal/aluminium backplate. I had to watch it up, but the current Touch is slightly lighter (a few grams) - but it looks thinner (thanks to the tapered edge invent) . The rounded edges produce it fit my palm slightly better, making it feel objective lawful (to be fair, the fresh Touch was already very, very expedient in this respect) . Other than that the outside dimensions exactly match that of the unusual Touch. The most visible change from the front is that the steel from the backplate now frames the glass remarkable like it did on the unique iPhone.

Touch Veil and Controls

The hide is simply ravishing. It's shining, crisp, has gargantuan difference, and can adapt it's brightness to the ambient light. In boom sunlight, noteworthy like it's predecessor it becomes difficult to read correctly. In shade it's perfectly readable -- a feat considering how quick-witted a reveal has to be to do that. Color temperature of the exhibit has shifted slightly downwards (or, to sound less pompuous: the display's colors have shifted slightly from a blueish to a golden tinge, something you wouldn't inspect unless you have the two devices side by side) .

The touch camouflage is very responsive, and as I stated before, absolutely scratch-resistant. Surviving a fat year in my pocket along with metallic objects such as my keys is a testament to it's durability (looking at the stainles steel backside is a constant reminder unprejudiced how badly it could have been scratched) . As with the new Touch, the same problems occur when you try to control the scheme 'blind' (i.e. while it is in your pocket) : without looking at it, you simply can't. Fortunately, Apple has addressed the most distinguished drawback with this design: a hardware volume control. The screen's resolution remains at 480x320, which is very noble (certainly better than my iPod Classic's) . Interestingly, I've found out that ripping videos to this resolution does not necessarily yield noticeably better results than for the iPod classic's (320x240) shroud, so I now rip to that resolution, conserving some memory.

iPod / iTunes

After one year of owning the novel Touch I have to remind myself that this design originally is an iPod -- or rather a digital music player. As it turns out, although I also exhaust it for music playing, this function has more and more been relegated to a background task -- a task, nontheless, that it handles really well. The coverflow, browsing and point to functionality has evolved nicely from the current (1.0 and 2.0) versions, and are unruffled the best in the market. The interface improvements relieve nice touches such as displaying a song's lyrics on single tap, bringing up the volume/cue controls on double-tap of the home button, an alphabetic shuffle rule when browsing titles, etc. Tranquil missing is a search function, though. And, especially in light of the aesthetic prove capabilities and the unusual addition of a unusual visualitzer (in additional to the existing ones in iTunes), I would have loved to glance a visualizer on the Touch as well. The biggest (and in my oppinion delibarate (as in testy) ) omission is this: you composed can't enable 'hard drive mode', i.e. utilize the Touch as a mass storage scheme. The biggest boon is improved battery life.

Video is crisp (detached no inequity control, though), and audio playback is unprejudiced as you quiz (again: I'm no audiophile. I'm absolutely gratified with most player's audio capabilities) . Again I'm not using the Apple-provided white and quite sub-par headphones. I'm using separately purchased ones. Novel for the second gen is a built-in speaker. Audio quality here is not actually abominable, but stop. The sound is tinny, primitive, and impartial somehow comes out of the iPod (mono, of course) . I fill that the addition of the speaker has a specific reason different from HiFi: it makes playing games on the Touch without headphones so mighty more toothsome. But for listening to music I would choose headphones or active speakers. To be fair, I win not listening to music from that speaker.

iTunes integration is excellent as before. Some sort of bug-fix now has made data backup worthy faster, and both iTunes and the Touch now sport a modern kind of lustrous playlist that is called 'Genius'. Initially, I wasn't impressed by this feature. Although iTunes 8 has had this feature I regarded it primarily as a well executed unusual arrangement to sell song and hence didn't utilize it. On my iPod, however (which only carries a subset of my library due to memory contraints), this feature literally rocks. On my first day alone it had me re-discover five songs I never knew I had (distinguished less liked) .

On the downside, the Touch detached does not serve playlist groups, which is a constant annoyance to me. I'm also disappointed to behold that the Touch detached can't synch wirelessly, nor can it be stale to access shared playlists (other than downloading them, of course) . An application in the App store offers this functionality, albeit only for non-DRM'd titles, proving the point that this is possible.

Images (from iPhoto) can also be synched to the Touch, and nothing is more fun than showing off your iPod's capabilities using a nice characterize and 'pinch' and 'swipe'. Interestingly (or rather: unfortunately), iTunes appears to down-sample huge images to a smaller resolution, probably to conserve memory. This may manufacture sense, but I would like to be able to have more control over this feature (i.e. resolve myself what the image's resolution on the iPod should be) .

Accessories - the Spacious Abominable Gross

Unfortunately, Apple has changed the pin-out (*again*) for the iPod connector. As a result, some 'made for iPod' accessories either don't work, or don't work fully any more. For example, my Altec Lansing active speakers can't charge the Touch any more (it was able to charge the 1st gen Touch) . This is truly, truly annoying as you don't know if your iPod works with your 'made for iPod' devices any longer, and makes purchasing recent accessories a game of chance. My car has a (hideously expensive) iPod integration that luckily collected works (including re-charging) . Calm, the iPod connector compatibility (or lack thereof) is becoming a titanic mess. Objective imagine you want to purchase an accessory for your kid or friend, and too slow acquire out that it does not work with it.

WiFi / Internet

A year ago I purchased an iPod, and got a fully integrated web accesory kit. As it turned out, the addition of WiFi and corpulent internet access is a killer feature to me. The web browser (a mobile version of Safari) is very beneficial. Mighty has been said about the fact that Mobile Safari does not encourage Flash. This is annoying if you visit sites that consume it. The pinch/slide gesture-based interface works so well that I regularely utilize the Touch for normal web surfing. The general experience has increased over the past few month, no doubt in no slight amounts due to the fact that many sites have beed re-designed with the iPhone in mind. Since the Touch's browser is exactly the same, it inherits the aid. WiFi hasten is gracious (although it collected uses the 802.11b/g, not the n variant) - and mostly depends on the hotspot you are connected to. It remembers the hotspots it has connected to (remarkable like a laptop would), and can also connect using WPA. There are other Web enabled applications that approach with the iPod (Maps, which can pinpoint your site by the location of hotspots conclude to you), Stocks, YouTube, and Weather, which are nice, but mighty. WiFi reception range is average, but definitely below that of some PC laptops.

Then, the Touch also comes with Mail, Calendar and Adressboock, and these do become killer fieatures, especially when coupled with an Exchange server or (as Apple would choose) MobileMe. Mail supports 'push' technology, meaning that (almost) as soon an there is an incoming mail (and your Touch is connected to a hotspot), you are notified by a cramped discreep 'bleep'. Reading emails, including mails with rich thunder works very well. Composing any but the shortes emails, on the other hand, is bothersome, verging on annoying due to the shrimp virtual keyboard) . Serene, simply being able to do this makes all the contrast. Live Calender updates have saved my bacon a few times already, as you do not have to remember to actively synch your iPod after you have made a change to the calender.

Integration with Exchange (at the point of writing) remains a tad spotty, with no messages appearing for s few hours, and then suddenly many appearing at once (I initially suspected a configuration hiss on the Exchange Server, but this appears not to be the case) . Depending upon how you configure MobileMe on your Mac, the results are similar to what you can put a question to from Exchange (with the dissimilarity, of course, that Apple is running the servers for you) . Unfortunately, MobileMe currently does not synch your Notes.

Nicely executed is the integrated iTunes store. While possibly honest another mechanism to generate sales, I simply like the fact that if I hear or remember a song, I can almost always instantly hold it and have it on my touch within seconds. Songs purchased on the Touch synchronize attend to your main library in iTunes (into a rather amusing 'Purchased on Touch' playlist) . If a download has to quit because the network connection was lost (or for any other reasons), it will continue as soon as the connection to the Internet is restored.

Interestingly, the touch sports (I'm a sucker for lame puns) the required hardware to connect to the 'Nike + iPod' sports accessories built-in (i.e. you do not have to connect the dongle) . I say interestingly because these devices expend the bluetooth frequency band, yet the Touch does not benefit bluetooth devices (headphones, mikes, car integration and printers arrive to mind) . Since I utilize a budge for work-out, this is not a must-have feature for me.

Applications/App Store

If Mail, Calendar and Browser are killer apps, Apple has added another killer feature to the Touch (and iPhone) that expands the device's usability (and customizability) by orders of magnitude: the App store. In appearance similar to the iTunes Store, here you can settle from literally hundrets of applictions (of greatly varying quality, though), acquire and install them instantly. Prices race from free to roughly 10 USD (there are some more expensive titles, but the majority are priced at a couple of USD) . The apps are presented in three different ways ('featured', 'top', browse by category), plus you have the ability to search for keywords.

Although the 'signal to noise' ratio isn't that ample (there are quite a lot of useless or awfully executed applications), there are some jaw-droppingly expedient apps that truly enhance your Touch. Among the first to mention is Apple's bear (free) 'Remote' app, which allows you to remote-control iTunes on your Mac or Apple TV - with real-time beefy visual feedback, and beefy search capability (allegedly, it is also a genuine boon for Apple TV users, as it provides a virtual keyboard as input means. Not having Apple TV, I can't comment on this) . Then there is an application that allows you to stream all your music (well, the unprotecte at least) to your Touch - over the Internet to wherever you are (interestingly, this App was not produced by Apple) .

Greatly enhancing the Touch's usability are eBook readers (the Touch is almost perfect for rading books, giving you that 'Star Trek' info pad feeling) as well as off-line news readers. Another valuable category are applications that enable you to easily transfer (and thought) files from your Mac/PC to the Touch. I would have expected Apple to integrate this feature into iTunes (perhaps rudimentary befriend for PDF), but third party providers are more than pleased to bridge this gap for you. And for the geeks there are VNC and SSH clients that finally allow them to control their server cluster using an iPod.

For those who want radio, there are lots of offerings for IP radios. Of course this means that your iPod must remain in range of a hotspot to spend this feature. Mine does, so I alos now have radio -- and re-discovered unbiased why I never missed it. I'm simply not a radio guy, I guess. I do know that many people miss it, and wish apple had gone the last mile and also added an FM tuner.

Two Apps I'm obvious that will reach soon at the App store is due to another addition to the Touch: back for extenal microphones. Apple's hi-end earphones have both a remote and mike built in, and are said to be compatible with the 2nd (and only 2nd) gen Touch. Audio heed pads, and VoIP apps (a la Skype) that allows phone functionality over WiFi are clear to follow soon (note: I have seen these apps available in the US stores; sadly they are not yet available here in Switzerland Also, I justify Apple's docs that the 2nd gen Touch supports external microphones, as they have not yet shipped the combined mike/remote headphones to me) .

And then there are games. They currently are the biggest category of all applications. The Touch, with it's integrated accelerometer, 480x320 color conceal and touch interface makes a nice gaming design, and developers have approach up with some truly fun and innovative games ('Toy Bot' may attend as a tremendous example) . Apple may have realized that this is becoming an increasingly primary aspect of the Touch: the Gen 2 design sports a speaker that makes miniature sense - except to improve the gaming experience (contain me: playing an accelerometer-based game with headphones on can be verry puny fun when it gets enchanting) . And improving the experience it does. The Touch is ill proper for classic 'control pad' based games (e.g. Tetris, Pac Man), and most of their Touch adaptations suffer accordingly. Other games, however, adapt nicely to touch/accelerometer input (Monkey Ball, Fracture Cart etc), or are a natural fit (Labyrinth, Sudoku, Solitair, Othello)

Super-geeks can also download the iPhone/Touch SDK and develop their gain applications. This is not for the faint of heart, as you first download a few gigabytes (Apple's XCode development environment), and then will have to code in Objective-C (an extension to standard C) and consume the Cocoa framework. Plus, you'll need a Mac to do so. The environment is actually very first-rate, and includes an iPhone simulator to test your software before deployment.

I should mention that most of the improvements (with the exception of the hardware upgrades: mike serve, built-in nike relieve, volume buttons and battery life) can be had for free on your 1st gen Touch (if you have the 2.0 Update), or a couple of bucks if you havn't upgraded yet. Unless you (like me) want the larger memory (my first gen only has 16GB), the decision to upgrade to 2nd gen may be difficult.

Summary:

The 2nd generation iPod Touch is an almost perfect way. It combines noble video/audio, world-class UI, huge casual gaming, hundrets of apps, and pudgy access to the Internet into a single, exquisite package. To sum it up neatly: Untouchable. Well -- almost. It has one great flaw if you have invested in accessories: it may not be compatible with them, as Apple has changed the iPod connector pin-out (again) . With those reservations, I recommend the Touch to anyone. Also great: owners of the 1st gen Touch can accept most of these goodies with a simple, inexpensive software upgrade.

- no bluetooth

The iPod Touch debuted only one year ago, and this is the first update. I was angry to seize up the novel iPod Touch at the Apple Store because I had never owned a first generation, though I do absorb iPhones.

I want to concentrate primarily on the unique features:

First, physical volume buttons are now placed on the side of the iPod Touch as they are on the iPhone. This is very convenient. It allows you to adjust the volume of your music, without having to pull the entire plot out of your pocket and activate the hide. A time saver.

Second, many people requested a built-in speaker for the iPod Touch like is available on the iPhone. Apple listened. However, there is one critical point to originate on this! The iPod Touch is incredibly little, and Apple is forced to keep an incredibly miniature speaker. The speaker in the iPod Touch sounds worst than the speaker in the iPhone. I have compared it side by side, and it's fairly necessary, and the iPhone speaker isn't that gargantuan to open with. However, in a peaceful room, the speaker is serene useful for previewing a song you might want to lift, or for playing games. However, detached, if you want big sound, you need to connect your headphones.

Genius - This unique feature is really surprisingly splendid. When you're listening to a song you luxuriate in, acquire the genius option. It will obtain a playlist for you, with songs that go together nicely with the one you started with. It helps you rediscover stout music from your collection with a playlist obedient to the mood you're in. I didn't reflect it would do a excellent job compiling this list, but it has been quite impressive.

Applications - It's titanic to have the ability to win (or collect some free) applications correct on the iPod Touch. Furthermore, with the software update this original iPod Touch comes with, the Application installation process is so distinguished smoother than it had been even on my iPhone. It now works how you want it to, seamlessly. I like having a weather application that includes doppler radar images, and that is free. I also have several games on it. There is a titanic variety of applications available from hundreds of third-parties accurate on the iPod itself, so you are determined to accept something that interests you. I really like the unique release of Spore, for the iPod Touch and iPhone. Apple is really pushing the games and quietly suggest they are keen Nintendo and Sony. They are innovative and consuming games, but I contemplate they have a ways to go, to challenge those game makers.

Nike + is now built in too, so if you have the shoes and the puck, the iPod Touch is ready to receive the data from it. Battery life is improved to 36 hours audio and 6 hours video according to Apple. I gather the audio number fairly factual if you don't light up the present great, but the video number is a limited bit harder to carry out.

Of course, the novel ipod Touch does spy and feel even better than the first generation, from my petite experiences with the previous one. I also assume it feels cooler than my iPhones, but obviously your interpretation may very. I like the metal benefit on the iPod Touch. It looks classy, though it is prone to scratches.

One of my current features continues to be, when in my home on Wi-Fi, to arrive down for the Touch, expend Safari web browser and peer something up. It's huge.

Overall, it was a solid update for the iPod Touch. I wish the speaker could be better on it, but I maintain that is due to the physical restrictions of the diminutive way. I could have knocked it to four stars for that, but I consider most people realize a built in speaker isn't the plot you want to listen to most audio on an iPod to launch with. I'm impressed by the second generation iPod Touch, and I assume with the third party applications getting better and becoming more well-liked, more people will think the Touch.

Obviously from all these other reviews this is by far the most functional product out there, and I'm not disputing that at all, I loved my Ipod touch, but they have a ridiculously short lifespan. The kicker is that if you as noteworthy as sweat on it or display it to hasty changing temperatures (as is celebrated in the upper midwest) your warranty is voided and your Ipod might not last long at all.

I impartial lost an Ipod touch due to moister condensation from taking it from 30 degree weather to 70 degree weather. That created enough condensation to lumber the water marker inside the Ipod which voids the warranty and shorted out the shroud. To top it off; that one was actually a replacement for another Ipod touch because the first one I got had a phone jack that broke within a month of normal utilize, and then this one had a atrocious conceal due to "water distress" and now Apple conveniently doesn't have to replace it anymore.

Just read some of the discussions on Apples region about Ipods and water hurt, it literally takes unbiased one topple of water to short it out and void the warranty.

So if your getting one my advice is to live somewhere that doesn't acquire too wintry or place you in situations that allow moisture condensation to happen.

I purchased the '4070' when I was getting tired of paying for the ink cartridges in my HP DeskJet 6840, especially for 'everyday' home printing (online order confirmations, homework, drawings, etc.) I was also looking for a printer to operate on a Mac network. This one is stout! The wireless feature allows you to 'plop' this thing down wherever there's a power cord and setup is fairly easy. It's a single-pass unit (e.g. color and B&W printing are the same print urge) and has duplexing built in. Does a 'realistic' job with color photos (not overly saturated) . I don't contemplate it's too noisy as previous reviews have stated, but it's certainly not as detached as an inkjet. The cartridges are neatly laid out in a removable 'drum' tray, making changeout that great easier. I particularly like the LCD exhibit with 3 backdrop colors (green for 'everythings okeydokey', amber for 'I'm in maintenance mode, so don't bother me' and red for 'Help!'. This veil tilts out so you can read it more easily as you bound by it. There are some notes for those Mac (maybe windoze too??? ) folks that I'd like to bring up:

1) bag the latest firmware update - especially for PDF files, the first version of firmware caused all sorts of problems where files didn't print at all. It may not be an yell, but as I got one of the first ones out I got the unique firmware version.

2) memory - find more! Especially if you employ the BR3 (Brother's PostScript3 emulator) you'll need at least another 64 MB impartial to perform it work. There may be some confusion as to which memory it takes, but the notch in the connector indicates that it's an SDRAM. I pulled memory out of an veteran laptop I was parting out and works resplendent.

If you're looking for a cheaper, water-resistant printout, especially if you need duplex, this is your printer!

---

UPDATE - almost 2 years later and mild running strong. I'd recommend locating the 'TN-115' series of cartridges as the 'TN-110's don't last nearly as long. Unfortunately, many extinct brick-and-mortar stores only carry the 110's

I possess a shrimp business and I needed a printer to high volume jobs, including sight catching color, and a shipshape presentation. After a week of solid research on the internet (there aren't many expedient resources), I was down to the decision between the HP and Brother.

After speaking with a very informed salesperson at Office Max, I decided to go with the Brother. Well rated, snappy output, and the consumables cost was also indecent. However, upon getting the unit home, I speedily noticed something annoying. (This ended up being a deal breaker for me; however, it may not bother some people.)

The final paper product comes out of the printer with curled edges. Literally, the top and bottom edge of the paper stock comes out curled. If I area the paper on a desk top, the curl is fair well-known - unbiased under thumb height. I waited over four days on one batch of paper and it remained curled. I tried 20, 24, 28 and even 32 pound laser and color laser paper. No change. Now the paper path on the Brother machine is delicate acute, and combine that with the obscene heat and you have the result I discovered.

I went befriend to the store where I purchased the machine and found the same assert with the store reveal - I unprejudiced didn't ogle how outrageous it was until I was handling the documents.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention another limited glitch with this printer: the noise. If you idea on sitting this anywhere approach a person (especially the suitable side of the printer), the fans are exquisite loud, shattering typical office ambience.

Besides these two issues, the printer networked easily. The setup CD was swiftly, painless, and easy to install on both my Mac and PC. Quality is high, with a solid earn and unremarkable colors (i.e., fits lawful in) . Again, the curling paper doesn't work for me; you may derive it otherwise.

I was looking for a cheap color laser printer with a built-in duplexer. The Brother 4070CDW delivers that, with righteous text quality. The color quality is a exiguous traditional, but overall it collected seems like extremely edifying value.

First the good:

* Black-and-white text quality is excellent: crisp and obvious.

* Setup was very straightforward, with sure and simple instructions.

* It is quiet when in sleep mode, and wakes up in around 15 seconds.

Minor weaknesses:

* Colors tend to be somewhat subdued. (For the ticket and the media, this is what I was expecting.) As is accepted with color laser printers, it seems dazzling for printing out web pages or powerpoint but not for any application requiring very doughty or very true colors.

* Pages tend to net slightly curled.

* Double sided printing is significantly slower than single-sided. The documentation says around 20 sides per shrimp for single-sided, but only 7 sides per tiny double-sided.

Overall, the 4070CDW more than meets my expectations. For $500 (less now!) I'm very glad with both the functionality and the print quality, especially for text.

**Before you read some of the negative reviews, please reflect this was BEFORE the recent firmware update 1.0.3 came out so unfortunately they had unresponsive clickwheels, itunes messing up etc. Also some people simply did NOT upgrade their firmware for whatever reason but A LOT of those problems have been fixed with the unique firmware so UPGRADE YOUR FIRMWARE AS SOON AS YOU Procure YOUR IPOD! It will invent a Tremendous disagreement!**

Ok, on to the review..I impartial got my 80 gb ipod classic recently with a 3 year extended service belief, immediately got itunes version 7.5 and upgraded the firmware immediately to 1.0.3 which seems to have taken care of A LOT of bugs people have been reporting. It must have because I am not getting ANY of the problems other have reported such as laggy clickwheel, itunes freezing etc. The clickwheel is VERY responsive, only a light touch is needed and scrolling through cloak art was very snappy! No problems whatsoever with the clickwheel. I also have had no problems copying files to itunes and transferring them to my ipod. The ipod itself is a thing of beauty, adore the non scratchable surface but the befriend of the ipod is where you can gape all the fingerprints etc so regain a respectable mask for it. The slimness of it is very sleek and heck this ipod unprejudiced looks cold. I got the ipod up and running in no time after I transferred my music over. Appreciate the search feature as well. There is a lot of features, settings and extra's. Heck I even like the clock.

PLEASE NOTE:TURN OFF & DON'T employ the EQ (equalizer setting) if you want normal distortion free sound. I was using the EQ and wondered why a lot of my songs had distortion. I plan it was due to the poor sound everyone was talking about until I turned OFF the EQ. Upon turning the EQ off, the distortion vanished completely, the sound was impartial lovely, splendid advantageous in fact. It's a shame that you have to turn off the EQ settings to pick up helpful sound. Hopefully Apple will fix this with a firmware update.

I almost got one of the itouch ipods but the very cramped dwelling is what kept me from doing so. 80 gb is plenty of area for my music, a bit of videos etc. It might not have wifi or a touch hide but it's got tons of site for my music and that's what counts! I fancy my ipod classic, can't get noteworthy to be picky about except for the sound when EQ is enabled. It does exactly what it's supposed to, is easy to navigate, videos observe crisp/great on it and most of all it holds a crapload of music. Fair remember to upgrade your firmware to the newest version, disable EQ and invest in a first-rate pair of headphones. One of the best things about the ipod classic is that because it has so considerable spot, I don't have to misfortune about how many mp3's I place on it. I've never downloaded so many mp3's in my life! I literally save my entire collection of mp3's on it and peaceful have tons of spot left. Overall, I rate the ipod classic 80 gb (sunless) ...absolutely suited.

Ok guys, I impartial picked up my silver iPod classic 160gb from the Apple store on Regent Street in London so I can give an dependable review on it.

I've had an 80GB video iPod for a year and it's already burly, so I was really hoping Apple would execute an iPod enormous enough for me. Presently I've got 110GB (and counting) of music, so this iPod is for people like me who have a immense music collection, and who like to be able to occupy it anyplace.

The 160GB iPod is the same size as the 80gb, but costs less than the 80GB did when it first came out.

With a brushed aluminium front achieve (similar to the 2 and 3G Nanos), it should be less prone to scratching, though the succor is the same smudge magnet, and I don't know how resilient the camouflage is. The front is curvier than that of the last 2 video iPods, with the veil slightly gloomy from the rest of the casing.

Additional features are extra long battery life (40 hours for music, 7 hours for video; I've tested this and playing music non cessation without great like a flash forwarding, etc, it's about fair), and cloak stride (a fun draw of scrolling through for music using album veil art, though it is a bit lazy) .

The original split-screen interface lists functions to the left half of the camouflage, and symbols (or previews of say such as conceal art, videos or photos shown as a shuffle display) to the honest as you scroll through the functions. Well-kept!!

During music playback, after being lazy for about 80 seconds, the cover goes gray and displays a clock, and battery power. Viewing tracks in an album also gives you, at a peruse, the track times. Same for video. A nice touch. To my hearing, the sound quality (without equalizers, mind you) is improved; more bass and a bit more treble. The iPod turns off in about 2 seconds, distinguished faster than previous models.

It's mild got the other regular features; album track lyrics (original, nicer text font, and it also shows the album art), can play video and games, store photos, contacts, calendar, notes, stopwatch, and cloak lock (which allows you to lock the shroud with a password), and it can be archaic as an external hard drive. It shows up in windows explorer as an external drive. The search feature allowing one to type in album/song/artist titles (introduced in the last video iPod) is smooth there, but relocated to the "music" menu. I didn't site it at first. In fact, the menu has been reshuffled to create it better, and (under settings) one can now plan number of songs, videos, photos, etc graphically fair like in iTunes.

If you need loads of plot for your music collection, you can't go immoral getting this. Judging from the crowds in the store, Apple's got another hit here. Now if only the iPod touch had this distinguished memory...

"Apple why did you do this to me? " might sound like a harsh name for a review, so I should initiate by saying this iPod is an fabulous map that may satisfy some customers. Building on tradition this iPod features the largest capacity yet: 160GB! When I heard this unit was out I immediately wanted it. After all who wouldn't want the king of all iPods? 160 GB is enough to believe many entire albums even without using compression--and have them playback gap free! So, here's why the unit had to be returned to the store, and why I have no interest in a 6G iPod.

Apple managed to do what appears to be a typical fade for successful manufacturers. They have discontinued the expend of a key portion of technology archaic in previous iPods: the Wolfson DAC. A "DAC", or digital to analog converter, is the chip that is responsible for turning numbers into sound (which is essentially what an iPod does) . On the 6G iPod Apple has chosen a unique DAC made by Cirrus Logic. This original chip apparently fails the taste test to an well-known community: people who care about the quality of their audio listening products. These are the same folks who throw away the headphones that approach with the iPod and occupy headphones that actually sound favorable.

Unfortunately this has me halting any iPod "classic" recommendations and purchases. I'm glad with my 5.5G iPod which uses the faithful Wolfson DAC and sounds like what a "classic" iPod should sound like. There are even folks who snarl by the fidelity of even earlier iPods. Apple, please secure it together.

Not a well known ticket, but a top quality product. I'm running the C 80 center with 4 C80 surrounds, a pair of C 805 fronts and 2 550 subs in a 7.2 setup driven by 4 Halo A23 amps and it simply blows you away. The amps are orderly spruce and the speakers do an valid job reproducing complex audio without distortion at astonishing sound levels. The 9 speakers will station you aid about 3500 and will be well worth the cost. They are made very well and behold mammoth as well.

I am really impressed with this cookware. It only takes a shrimp or two to heat the food and it is also easy to dapper.

The only predicament I have with my residence is that the lining is really thin. If you soak anything in the immense pot it will leave a permanent stain.

The most essential factor in my buy of this product was they they can be washed in the dishwasher. With three kids, hand washing pots, pans and knives every night is fair something I'm no longer willing to do. The manufacturer states that while these are dishwasher-proof, they serene recommend hand washing. I have owned mine for a month now and washed them almost nightly in the dishwasher and they serene behold impress fresh. Quality is suitable and worth every penny.

this pot residence is quite improbable! i appreciate the cleanability and dishwasher-safe stainless and the nonstick is fabulous! it's been hard to procure a site with both attributes. the nonstick never needs soaking to collect off tough, dried-on foods. the lids on a few are interchangeable, so you don't have to have too many lids. the 2qt. pot lid fits the 8-inch skillet. the 3qt. pot, the 3.5 quart saute pan, and the stock pot all have the same diameter, so any of their lids can be stale with the 10-inch skillet.

the only thing i would change is the obtain the 3.5 quart saute pan a minute deeper, maybe by an saunter or two. i realize that would also change the capacity for the better. the encapsulated aluminum bottom on all the pots and skillets really provides even heating.

i definitely assume it's worth it to rep this 14-piece over the 12-piece. the only dissimilarity is the 12-inch everyday pan and it's lid which has reach in more handy than i view. it's a huge size for 4-6 and possibly 8 servings of meat.

if you're looking for quality stainless and nonstick, you'll worship this site!
